Sourcing from Xiamen: Electronics and Stone Suppliers

CN Ally Team·April 4, 2026

Xiamen pairs a serious electronics manufacturing base with the world's largest stone trading ecosystem. This 2026 guide maps what to source, where the factories sit, and how to buy well.

Sourcing from Xiamen makes sense for products in its strong clusters: electronics and optoelectronics, natural stone, eyewear, fitness equipment, or bathroom hardware. The city pairs a genuine high-tech manufacturing base with the world's largest stone trading ecosystem and a top-15 container port — factory-gate electronics and a global stone market in a single trip.

Xiamen is an island port city on the Taiwan Strait, across the water from Taiwan. That geography shaped its industry: as one of China's earliest special economic zones, it absorbed decades of Taiwanese investment into electronics, machinery, and precision manufacturing. The supplier base skews export-experienced — factories here are used to foreign documentation, third-party inspections, and English-speaking sales teams.

For buyers new to the region, the main risk is the same as in any Chinese industrial city: the difference between a factory and a trading company with a nice website. A sourcing agent who knows Xiamen's zone map can shortlist real manufacturers, verify them on the ground, and keep your order out of a middleman's hands. This guide covers what Xiamen makes, where the factories actually sit, how stone and electronics sourcing work here, and how to plan visits and logistics.

Why does Xiamen deserve a place on your sourcing shortlist?

Three things that rarely come together: a real manufacturing base (the Torch Hi-Tech Zone alone gathers tens of thousands of enterprises across electronic information, machinery, and new energy), a trading ecosystem (Xiamen handles the bulk of China's stone trade and hosts the industry's flagship fair), and logistics (the port ranks 14th in the world, with 185 liner routes reaching 147 ports in 54 countries and regions).

In practice, one trip can cover Torch-zone LED factories in the morning and a stone supplier in the afternoon — one set of QC visits, potentially one consolidated shipment. Xiamen is also less picked-over than Shenzhen or Guangzhou, so serious buyers often find more attentive factories and keener opening quotes. It is not a fit for everything: no real apparel, toy, or furniture cluster, and a smaller consumer-electronics ecosystem than Shenzhen's.

What does Xiamen actually make?

Check your product against this cluster map before contacting any supplier — factories surrounded by their component makers quote faster and solve problems faster.

Cluster · Key areas · Typical products

  • Electronics and optoelectronics: Torch Hi-Tech Zone (Huli, Xiang'an), Software Park · LED lighting and chips, displays and modules, telecom and computer equipment, power equipment, smart terminals
  • Natural stone: Xiamen trading offices; processing in Shuitou, Nan'an (~53 km away) · Granite and marble slabs, cut-to-size tiles, mosaics, countertops, monuments
  • Eyewear: Haicang district · Sunglasses, optical frames, lenses; one industry guide calls it the world's largest sunglasses production base
  • Fitness equipment: Tong'an district · Treadmills, exercise bikes, rowing machines, home gyms, commercial gym fit-outs
  • Sanitary ware and bathroom hardware: Huli, Xiang'an · Faucets, showerheads, bathroom accessories, valves
  • Machinery and electrical equipment: Jimei, Haicang · Switchgear, motors, power distribution equipment, industrial machinery

The electronics base is the anchor for most new buyers, concentrated in optoelectronics (LED), displays, and power equipment rather than Shenzhen-style gadget assembly. San'an Optoelectronics — one of China's largest LED chip makers — is based here, alongside display makers Tianma and TPV and power-equipment operations including ABB.

Stone works differently. Xiamen is the trading and logistics layer — showrooms, exporters, block yards — while heavy processing happens in Shuitou, Nan'an, about 53 kilometers away and described by China Daily as the world's top stone-processing base. Over 60 percent of China's stone trade flows through Xiamen.

Two smaller clusters round out the picture. Haicang's eyewear industry grew out of Taiwanese optical manufacturers that relocated across the strait in the late 1980s and now runs full OEM/ODM operations. Tong'an is a designated national demonstration zone for the quality and safety of exported fitness equipment.

Where exactly are the factories? Xiamen's key industrial zones

Xiamen's industry is spread across the island and the mainland districts, and the zone name on a supplier's address tells you a lot.

The Xiamen Torch Hi-Tech Zone matters most for electronics buyers. Approved by the State Council in 1991, it is one of only three national high-tech zones in China carrying the "Torch" name, with 40,000-plus enterprises and 2,000-plus national high-tech firms. Pillars: flat-panel displays, computer and telecom equipment, power equipment, software, microelectronics and ICs, LED. Its "one zone, multiple parks" model spans Huli, Xiang'an, Jimei, and Tongxiang — and a Torch-zone address usually means a legitimate industrial tenant (official profile).

Xiang'an hosts newer parks and a growing share of Torch-zone expansion. Jimei has machinery, electrical equipment, and strong research institutions. Haicang, west of the island, holds the eyewear cluster and port logistics. Tong'an in the north is the fitness base; Huli mixes older industrial areas with the software park and trading companies.

One practical note: many stone "suppliers" with Xiamen addresses are trading companies or sales offices, with the actual factory in Shuitou or elsewhere in Fujian. That is not automatically a problem — good stone traders add real value in block selection and consolidation — but you should know which one you are talking to before negotiating price.

How does stone sourcing actually work in Xiamen?

Understand the split first: Xiamen trades stone, Shuitou processes it. Your buying trip should cover both.

The annual Xiamen International Stone Fair, held each March, is the world's largest stone exhibition: the 25th edition in 2025 drew more than 2,000 exhibitors — over 300 international, from 40-plus countries — across 180,000 square meters (background read).

After the fair, visit Shuitou. Its processing cluster runs from gang-saw cutting of imported blocks to polishing, carving, and CNC shaping — and this is where you verify real capacity. A block yard, running saws, and a waterjet line tell you more than any brochure. Ask to see the blocks your slabs will come from, and get the quarry name in writing: color and veining vary between quarries even for the "same" stone.

Stone QC has its own logic. Slabs should be dry-laid and numbered in cutting order so veining matches across the installation. Check thickness tolerance, resin filling, and edge chipping, and confirm seaworthy packing is included — stone travels in wooden A-frames or crates, and packing quality decides whether it arrives intact. A pre-shipment inspection with a dry lay is standard practice for container-load orders.

Pricing runs per square meter for slabs and tiles, per piece or container for monuments and cut-to-size. Prices move with quarry block costs, so a six-month-old quote may not hold. Get material name, origin quarry, thickness, finish, and packing terms on the proforma invoice — not just a price per square meter.

What about electronics? Inside the Torch Hi-Tech Zone

Electronics buyers come to Xiamen for depth in a few specific verticals, not for the everything-under-one-roof sprawl of Shenzhen.

LED and optoelectronics are the standout. With San'an Optoelectronics headquartered in the zone and a full chain from chips through packaging to finished luminaires, Xiamen is one of China's best cities for LED lighting: high-bay, street, panel, and grow lights, plus custom fixtures — with faster prototyping on custom optics and drivers.

Displays and modules are the second pillar: Tianma Microelectronics and TPV anchor a chain covering small and medium-size TFT modules, industrial displays, and monitor assembly.

Power equipment and electrical round out the picture: switchgear, transformers, power supplies, and industrial electrical components, with both domestic leaders and multinational operations in the zone.

Torch-zone electronics factories tend to be larger, better capitalized, and more export-experienced than average — and more selective. A factory at healthy utilization will not chase a 500-piece trial order, so come with realistic volumes, clear specs, and budget for tooling and certification.

Xiamen vs Shenzhen: which city for electronics?

Buyers often ask whether to bother with Xiamen when Shenzhen exists. The honest answer depends on what you are buying.

Factor · Xiamen · Shenzhen

  • Electronics ecosystem scale: Deep in LED, displays, power equipment; narrower overall · The world's densest consumer-electronics supply chain
  • Best product fits: LED lighting, display modules, power electronics, smart terminals · Phones, gadgets, IoT devices, drones, fast-iteration consumer tech
  • Factory profile: Larger, export-experienced, more selective on small orders · Full spectrum from startups to giants; more small-batch friendly
  • Cost pressure: Generally lower factory rents and labor costs than Shenzhen · Higher operating costs, often reflected in quotes
  • Multi-category trips: Strong: combine electronics with stone, eyewear, fitness, bathroom hardware · Weaker outside electronics
  • Port and logistics: Top-15 world container port, 185 liner routes · Yantian/Shekou ports, denser sailings to most destinations

Choose Xiamen when your product falls in its verticals, when you want to consolidate electronics with stone or another Xiamen category, or when Shenzhen quotes feel inflated. Choose Shenzhen for rapid prototyping, tiny MOQs, or the gadget ecosystem only Huaqiangbei's orbit provides. Some buyers split the difference: develop in Shenzhen, move stable high-volume production to Xiamen.

How do you find and vet suppliers in Xiamen?

Start online, then verify on the ground. Alibaba and Made-in-China let you filter by location — search your product plus Fujian or Xiamen. For domestic-market factories, 1688 lists far more manufacturers, but you will need to search in Chinese (厦门 plus your product term, e.g. 厦门石材 for stone).

Trade fairs beat websites for Xiamen. The Stone Fair in March is the obvious one for stone buyers; for electronics, check the zone's industry events before booking flights. Meeting five shortlisted factories in three days around a fair beats cold outreach.

Vetting follows the same logic anywhere in China, with a few Xiamen-specific notes:

  1. Check the business license scope and registered capital, and confirm the registered address matches the claimed zone. A "manufacturer" at a residential or pure-office address deserves a closer look.
  2. Ask for export history — markets, certifications, experience with third-party QC firms. Export-experienced factories answer without hesitation.
  3. Get samples before any deposit. For stone, that means a sample slab or tile from the actual quarry block, not a showroom offcut. For electronics, a working sample built to your spec, not a catalog unit.
  4. Run a factory audit before placing a production order, especially with first-time suppliers. Most zones sit within an hour of the city center, so auditors can cover two or three factories in a day.

Watch for the classic Xiamen stone pattern: a polished sales office quoting factory prices while subcontracting everything to Shuitou. Traders are not the enemy — but their margin should be visible, and you should know the real factory's name in case you need to escalate a quality problem.

What should you know before visiting Xiamen?

Xiamen is one of the easier Chinese industrial cities to visit. Gaoqi International Airport connects across Asia, and the city is compact: Torch-zone parks, island trading offices, and the port sit within a 30 to 60-minute drive of each other. Shuitou is about an hour south — a stone buyer can cover Xiamen showrooms and Shuitou factories in a two-day loop — while Haicang and Tong'an are each under an hour from the island.

Time stone trips around the March fair — hotels fill up and factory owners are all in town. For electronics there is no single must-attend fair, so schedule around your shortlist. Bring an interpreter unless your Mandarin is functional, and leave slack in factory-visit days.

How does shipping work from Xiamen Port?

Most buyers ship FOB Xiamen. Ranked 14th in the Lloyd's List 2025 top-100 ports on 2024 throughput of about 12.25 million TEU, Xiamen runs 185 liner routes to 147 ports in 54 countries and regions — frequent, fast sailings to Southeast Asia and well-established services to the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.

For heavy stone, confirm with your forwarder whether slabs go in a standard container (with A-frames) or as breakbulk. For electronics, standard FCL/LCL service applies.

If you are consolidating goods from multiple Xiamen-area suppliers, or combining Xiamen stone with electronics from the Torch zone, a forwarder or shipping partner can merge cargo into fewer containers. That is where the city's multi-category strength turns into freight savings: one 40-foot container of mixed goods beats two half-empty ones.

Frequently asked questions

Is Xiamen cheaper than Shenzhen for sourcing electronics?

Often, but fit matters more than the postcode. A well-matched Xiamen LED factory will beat a Shenzhen generalist on price and quality; a Shenzhen specialist will beat a Xiamen factory stretching outside its vertical. Compare like with like: same specs, same certifications, same Incoterms.

Can I source stone directly from Xiamen, or do I need to go to Shuitou?

Many importers buy through Xiamen trading offices. But for first orders, visit the Shuitou processing cluster: verify real capacity, select actual blocks, and build a direct relationship with the factory cutting your stone. Use Xiamen offices for consolidation and logistics; Shuitou for production truth.

When is the Xiamen International Stone Fair?

Every March at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center — the 25th edition ran March 16–19, 2025, with more than 2,000 exhibitors. Book hotels early; buyers come from dozens of countries and the city fills up.

Do Xiamen factories accept small trial orders?

It depends on the cluster. Stone suppliers routinely sell single slabs or sample boxes. Torch-zone electronics factories are more volume-oriented — most do paid samples but expect production runs in the thousands. Eyewear and fitness fall in between. If your volumes are small, say so upfront and ask for the true MOQ rather than negotiating down from a 10,000-piece quote.

Is it practical to visit several Xiamen supplier clusters in one trip?

Yes — that is one of the city's real advantages. Four days can cover Torch-zone electronics factories, Haicang eyewear makers, and a Xiamen–Shuitou stone loop without rushed days. The districts are compact by Chinese industrial-city standards, which keeps transfers short and multi-factory audit days feasible.

When Xiamen is the right call

Use a simple decision rule. If your product sits in one of Xiamen's clusters — LED and optoelectronics, displays, power equipment, natural stone, eyewear, fitness equipment, bathroom hardware — put Xiamen at the top of your list. Buying across two or three categories makes the consolidation advantage (one trip, one QC program, one port) hard to beat.

If your product is fast-iteration consumer electronics with tiny MOQs, start in Shenzhen instead. And if your product is nowhere on Xiamen's cluster map — apparel, toys, furniture — do not force the fit; the right city matters more than a convenient port.

For buyers ready to explore Xiamen suppliers, start with a clear spec sheet and a shortlist of five to eight factories, then verify before you commit. For help with shortlisting, factory visits, or QC on the ground, email hi@cnally.com.
